Natural Beauty Made Accessible To All
Cataract Gorge Reserve, Launceston TAS
The Brief
At Launceston’s Cataract Gorge a pedestrian Inclinator was added as part of a large refurbishment of the popular natural tourist attraction. The addition meant the Gorge’s gorgeous reserve was easily accessible for people in wheelchairs and others with mobility issues.
While the Inclinator was initially installed as a solution for the mobility challenged, it soon became quite an iconic attraction. Visitors today are still keen to ride the Inclinator and take in the beautiful surrounds as they descend into the gorge (or ride out of it).
It is capable of carrying up to eight people at a time and is fully wheelchair accessible. It transports visitors from the Gorge’s top entrance to the lawn area below.
